Linda M. Heywood is Professor of African History at Boston University. She is the author of several books on the history of slavery, including Slavery in Africa: A Historical and Anthropological Survey and The African Diaspora: A History Through Sources.

John K. Thornton is Professor of History at Boston University. He is the author of several books on the history of Africa, including Africa and Africans in the Making of the Atlantic World, 1400-1800 and A History of West Central Africa to 1800.

Paul E. Lovejoy is Professor of History at the University of Toronto. He is the author of several books on the history of slavery, including Transformations in Slavery: A History of Slavery in Africa and The African Diaspora: A History Through Sources.
